The Next Day is more than an exhibition. It is an immersive experience into the impacts of climate change in the cities and the lives of people, as well as a reflection on the opportunities for a low carbon future and a fairer and more balanced life, with sustainable and inclusive cities for all inhabitants.
Relating cities and climate emergency is essential in the debate and confrontation of greenhouse gas emissions. Although they occupy only about 2% of the land surface, urban centers account for 70% of the emissions according to the United Nations, and for approximately 70% of the global consumption of energy. They are also the home to over 50% of the population of the planet – and this number is constantly growing.
The climate crisis is a human crisis. It relates directly to all that is most important in our lives: health, energy, education, social, gender and race equality, infrastructure, mobility, food, and security.
The problem is that we simply do not make this connection.
But what if we do?
Well, in this case, we can immediately start to build a different future. The message from the scientists is clear and we have a short window of opportunity to do something about it. But there is time!
And this is what The Next Day wants to show. Through immersive experiences, with the help of LED panels, interactive floors, touch screens, 2D and 3D mapping and plenty of information, we invite the visitors to feel the effects of the climate in the cities and in our lives, and to learn about the solutions and opportunities we have ahead of us in areas such as the economy, housing, renewable energies, mobility, new business, and much more. We believe that the feelings will generate a desire for transformation. So, come along and feel and transform!
